Maple-Baked Butternut Squash

INGREDIENTS

2-1/2 pounds butternut squash, pared and cubed
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
3 slices bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled

Heat 1-inch salted water (1/4 teaspoon, if desired, to 1 cup water) to boiling in 3-quart saucepan; add squash. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and boil gently 11 to 12 minutes or until squash is tender; drain.

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mash squash; stir in remaining ingredients except bacon. Turn mixture into ungreased 1-quart casserole dish. Bake, uncovered, 20 to 30 minutes, or until hot. Sprinkle with bacon.
