The recipes presented here look both to the past and the present. These quick meal recipes are suited for today's busy cooks. Some of the soups and stews here involve long simmering on the back of the stove or in the oven, mostly unattended. These are good for weekend meals.

It's a busy world, and we need all the breaks we can get, and cooking quickly and yet nutritiously is important. The ideas I offer here are not new, but can prompt your memory least you forgot......

Fortunately, I was a "stay-at-home" mom when I was raising my children, which was the "norm" in my day, and I am again fortunate being a grandmom who has custody of, and raising, 4 of my grandchildren, that I am able to be at home.

With the size of my family, even though I am home at most times, I have found through the years that preparing foods ahead saves me a bunch of time, and I am ensured that my family always have a nutritious meal on the table. Believe me, I'm from the old school, and a trip to "Fast Food" restaurants are a treat and only occur maybe once a month.

Of course, this takes planning! I have devoted an entire section on this site for "Make Ahead Meals", which can be of help to you in planning your meals. I still sit down once a week, and plan out my menu plans for the upcoming week. This ensures I have all the needed foodstuffs, and also helps me from overspending at the supermarket. From breakfast to desserts, I am ready. Of course, I always have plenty of fresh fruit around for the kids to snack on!

Sitting down in front of the boob tube with a frozen something gets old after a while. And all the while it is possible to prepare quick foods that are actually good and nutritious and just takes a little planning. That thing sitting in your kitchen is called a "freezer". It can really be your friend. Go ahead and prepare that recipe you love, make enough for an army, and divide into the required portions, enough for one, two, four, or six, and then freeze. You have created your own "main course" to be served with pride. Your next friend in your kitchen is a "microwave oven", often taken for granted. The frozen entrées you have made need to be defrosted; the microwave will complete this task in minutes. Just make sure your frozen homemade dinners are stored in a container safe for the microwave.

Below you will find other recipes for "Quick Meals", and think ahead. Make double.....serve one, freeze the other. It's just as easy to cook more, as it is to cook less!
