Apple Pie 2

PASTRY
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
Pinch of baking powder
2/3 cup shortening
5 to 6 tablespoons ice waterMix flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut in shortening and work carefully with your fingers until consistent. Sprinkle water gradually over mixture and mix until pastry forms a ball.
FILLING
5 to 6 medium apples, thinly sliced
1-1/3 cups granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmegMix ingredients together and pour into bottom crust. Dot with 1 tablespoon butter. Put on top crust and flute edge. Brush top with beaten egg.
Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 400 degrees, and bake an additonal 30 minutes.
