INGREDIENTS

2 cups flour
Rounded 1/2 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 pound butter or 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cup milk

Choice of Optional Fillings

Sardines
Lightly fried little pig sausages
Seasoned and cooked chicken livers
Tiny, cooked hamburgers

Sift 2 cups flour. Measure and resift twice with rounded 1/2 teaspoon salt and 3 teaspoons baking powder.

Cut in 1/4 pound butter or 1/2 cup vegetable shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives, until you have a crumbly-looking meal. Slowly add 3/4 cup milk, beating to a smooth paste. Place in the refrigerator for several hours to chill.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Roll out dough very thin -- the thinner, the better. Cut into even squares, 3 x 3-inches. Encase sardines, with a sprinkling of lemon juice over them, or lightly fried little pig sausages, or seasoned, cooked chicken livers, or tiny, cooked hamburgers, mixed with a little onion.

Bake on a cookie sheet in a 450 degree oven until light brown. Remove and sprinkle with salt.

NOTE: There are countless ways to use these "Blankets." My only suggestion is that they be reserved for encasing something with a piquant or well-seasoned flavor.
