Schnitz Pie

INGREDIENTS 1 pound sour schnitz (dried sour apples)
1 quart cold water
2 tablespoons cinnamon
Juice and rind of 1 orange
2 cups sugar
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell (2 crust)Put the schnitz and the water into a saucepan and cook to a soft pulp. Add the cinnamon, sugar, orange juice and orange rind; mix well together. Set aside to cool.
Line pie pan with pastry; fill with the cooled schnitz and cover top with pastry. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue to bake for about another 30 minutes.
