Italian Meat-Ball Spaghetti

INGREDIENTS 1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup olive oil
1 large green pepper, chopped
4 large onions, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 (No. 2-1/2) cans whole pack tomatoes, 6 cups
6 (6-ounce) cans tomato sauce
3 (8-ounce) cans Italian-style tomato paste
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/8 teaspoon sage
1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 teaspoon sugar, or to taste
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1-1/2 pounds ground round steak
1/2 pound sautéed mushrooms, thinly slicedSauté garlic in olive oil; add green pepper and onions. Sauté well. Add salt, pepper, tomatoes, 4 cans tomato sauce and 2 cans tomato paste. Cover and cook slowly for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add thyme, sage, poultry seasoning, sugar, oregano and soy sauce gradually, about a pinch at a time. Add more seasoning, if desired. Cook 2 hours.
Add meat to sauce gradually and blend well. Simmer an additional hour. Add 2 remaining cans tomato sauce, 1 can tomato paste and sautéed mushrooms. Add meat balls.
MEAT BALLS
1-1/2 pounds ground round steak
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon thymeMix ingredients well and form into meat balls the size of a large walnut. Drop into sauce and simmer 45 minutes.
Serve over spaghetti (one pound, cooked according to package directions). Drain.
