Scalloped Potatoes

INGREDIENTS 3 to 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
2 tablespoons butter, diced
Salt and black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1-3/4 cups milk
1 cup cheddar cheese, shreddedArrange half of the potato slices in a 9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with half the onion. Dot with 1 tablespoon of the butter and add salt and pepper. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of the flour. Place the remaining potato slices in the dish and layer as before. Pour the milk over all; cover and bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.
After 45 minutes, sprinkle the cheddar cheese over the potatoes and continue baking, uncovered, for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the sauce thickens.
