INGREDIENTS

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup chopped onion
1-1/2 pounds ground round beef
1 cup quick oats, not instant or old-fashioned
1 cup tomato juice
1/2 cup ketchup or barbecue sauce, divided
1 egg white
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Heat vegetable oil in a small skillet on medium heat. Add onion; sauté until softened.

Combine onion, meat, oats, tomato juice, 1/4 cup ketchup, egg white, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic salt. Stir until well blended. Press into 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2-inch loaf pan, or shape into loaf. Turn out into larger baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Remove from oven. Spread remaining 1/4 cup ketchup over top. Return to oven; bake 10 more minutes.

Remove from oven. Let stand 5 minutes. Place on serving plate, slice and serve.
