INGREDIENTS

1-1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar, divided
1 cup water
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 cups diced, peeled apples, about 1-1/3 pounds or 4 medium
4 cups toast cubes
1/4 cup Butter Flavor Crisco, melted

Heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease a 1-quart casserole with Butter Flavor Crisco.

Combine 1 cup brown sugar, water, corn syrup, lemon juice and cinnamon in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add apples. Boil 5 minutes. Add toast cubes. Mix lightly until liquid is absorbed. Spoon into casserole. Press lighty. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar. Drizzle with Butter Flavor Crisco.

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes or until top is crisp.

Makes 8 servings

NOTE - I usually serve this warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream. The kids like to drizzle a few drops of chocolate syrup over it.
