Hamburger Casserole

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon shortening or oil
1 cup chopped onion
1 pound ground round beef
1 (9-ounce) package frozen cut green beans, (I use canned, drained)
3 cups frozen Southern-Style Hash Brown Potatoes
1 (10-3/4-ounce) can zesty tomato soup
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup fine dry bread crumbs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Oil an 11-3/4 x 7-1/2-inch baking dish.

Heat oil or shortening in a large skillet on medium-high heat. Add onion; sauté until softened. Push to one side of the skillet. Add the meat; sauté until browned. Add green beans, cook and stir about 5 minutes or until thawed (if using canned, just until heated); add potatoes.

Combine tomato soup and water. Stir until well blended. Stir into skillet. Stir in basil, salt and pepper. Spoon into the prepared casserole; sprinkle with bread crumbs.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
