INGREDIENTS

GARLIC BUTTER

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 garlic clove, crushed
2 teaspoons dried marjoram leaves
1/2 teaspoon pepper

2 loaves French or Italian bread, about 14-inches long

DO AHEAD

Several hours before dinner, make Garlic Butter - In a small bowl, combine butter, parsley, Parmesan, garlic, marjoram, and pepper; mix until well blended.

Cut each loaf in half lengthwise. Spread cut sides with garlic butter. Cut each half, on the diagonal, not quite all the way through, into 1-inch-thick slices. Set the bread aside on a cookie sheet, loosely covered.

Just before serving, broil bread, buttered side up, 4-inches from heat, about 8 minutes, or until lightly toasted. Cut or pull slices apart.
