Portzelky (New Year's Cookies)

These are great cookies. They are very rich and fried to a really cripsy texture. They are pronouned "parceltche".
INGREDIENTS
1 package active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup warm water
3 cups water
3 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
4 large eggs, beaten
2 to 3 cups raisins
Enough flour to make a thick dough
Oil, for frying
Confectioners' sugar, for dustingDissolve 1 teaspoon sugar in 1/2 cup warm water. Sprinkle yeast on water and let stand for 10 minutes.
Add the rest of the ingredients, except oil, to the yeast. Stir in enough flour to make a thick batter. Let rise until double in bulk.
Drop by spoonfuls into hot, deep fat and fry until golden brown. Cool, and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
