Custard Corn Bread

INGREDIENTS 1/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup stone-ground white cornmeal
9 ounces of milk
1 egg, well beaten
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milkPreheat oven to 400 degrees.
Sift flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder into a large bowl. Add cornmeal. Blend in milk and egg, and whisk mixture briskly for approximately 1 minute.
In the oven melt butter until just sizzling in an 8 x 8-inch baking pan. Pour batter into pan. Pour the milk over the batter, and DO NOT STIR.
Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until set. Serve hot, right from pan.
