30-Minute Snacking Cheese Bread

INGREDIENTS

1 medium onion, minced
1 small clove garlic, minced
4 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup chili sauce
2 teaspoons celery seeds
1 loaf of unsliced bread, 1 pound
8 medium-thin slices of cheese, Muenster, Mozzarella, Swiss, etc.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sauté onion and garlic in butter in a small heavy skillet until golden. Stir in chili sauce and celery seeds and mix well.

Cut bread into 8 equal slices almost through to bottom crust. Using half the chili sauce mixture, spread it between each slice of bread. Add cheese between each slice.

Cover a cookie sheet with foil and place bread on the foil. Pour remaining half of chili sauce mixture over top of bread.

Bake for 1 hour. Remove bread from oven and cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Makes 8 slices
