Seaweed Soup

Print This Recipe

Koreans make this soup for birthdays or for women who just had a baby. I make this soup often myself and my grandson Robert because I like the soup and it is full of minerals, and seaweed itself has no calories.

INGREDIENTS

Dried seaweed
1-ounce beef, sliced very thin in small pieces
4 cups water
8-ounces beef stock
3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons soy sauce*
Sesame seed oil

BEEF SEASONING

1-1/2 tablespoons sesame seed oil
Ground black pepper

Soak dried seaweed in a bowl. In about 10 minutes, remove the seaweed and cut into desired length.

Cut beef into small pieces and season with sesame seed oil and ground black pepper.

Slice garlic thinly.

In a large pot, add a few drops of sesame seed oil and heat until hot. Stir in beef and seaweed and cook until meat is done. Pour in 4 cups water and beef stock; bring to a boil; skim off any fat that rises. Add garlic slices and soy sauce. Boil soup for about 10 minutes, adjust seasonings to taste.

NOTE - *Soy sauce for soup is called Kook Ganjang. Regular soy sauce is called Ganjang.
