A straight, flat, narrow spatula with a stainless steal blade that is used for icing or frosting cakes and to spread or smooth other toppings or mixtures. The blade is slightly flexible, which aids in spreading and smoothing soft toppings. The spatula is used as a decorating tool but can also be used to serve slices of cake. Cake spatulas are available with various length blades, such as 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches. They are also available with wooden, stainless steel, polypropylene, or plastic handles. They are also referred to as pastry spatulas and straight spatulas.
