3 tablespoons flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon butterCombine dry ingredients very thoroughly. Add milk and egg. Cook over boiling water, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add vanilla and butter. Cool.
Makes enough filling for 2 layers
BANANA CUSTARD FILLING - Increase sugar to 1/2 cup and vanilla to 1 teaspoon. Fold 2 bananas, sliced, into cooled filling.
