This Philippine dish provides meat, vegetables, and soup; all from one pot.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup dried chick peas
1 teaspoon peppercorns
1 pound chicken, cut into serving-size pieces
1 pound pork, cut into cubes
1 large onion, sliced
10 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 medium tomatoes, chopped
1 pound sweet potatoes, cut into chunks
1 small head Chinese cabbage

Wash chick peas and soak overnight in water to cover. Cut chicken into serving-size pieces, cube the pork.

Place chick peas and meat into a large pan and cover with water. Add sliced onion, salt, and peppercorns and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until chick peas are almost tender.

In another pan, heat a small amount of oil; fry garlic and chopped onion until golden brown. Add tomatoes and cook to a pulp. Add meat and stock together with sweet potatoes. Simmer until potatoes are half-cooked; then add cabbage for the last few minutes. Serve meat and vegetables separately from broth.
