Cheese Bread Sticks

INGREDIENTS

2 packages dry yeast
1-1/2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup salad or olive oil
4 to 4-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 egg whites, slightly beaten
Coarse baker's salt
Grated Parmesan cheese

Add yeast to warm water and add sugar. Set aside until yeast mixture activates. Add oil. Slowly sift in flour and salt, mixing until you have a smooth dough.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Roll out pieces of dough the size of pencils and twist 2 together. Brush with egg whites and sprinkle with baker's salt and grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake on greased cookie sheet in preheated oven for 20 minutes.

NOTE - The recipe calls for either salad or olive oil but olive oil naturally gives the bread sticks a distinctive Italian flavor. Choose whichever suits your palate.
