Fruitcake Cookies

Even if you're not a fan of fruitcake, you will probably enjoy this cookie. The texture and taste are both appealing.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
4 large eggs, slightly beaten
3 teaspoons milk
3 cups all-purpose flour plus extra for dusting fruit and nuts
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup rum
1 pound total of combination of chopped candied red cherries, green cherries,
figs, apricots and pears
1 pound dates, chopped
4 cups pecan halvesPreheat oven to 275 degrees.
Cream the sugar and the butter in a large bowl. Add the eggs, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk.
Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg in a large bowl. Add to the creamed mixture. Stir in the rum.
Lightly flour the cherries, dates, and pecans. Fold into the batter.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheets (or use parchment paper-lined baking sheets). Bake for 30 minutes. Remove to a wire rack to cool.
Makes 9 dozen cookies
