Because this dough handles well, prepare ahead of time.

INGREDIENTS

4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 pound butter, softened

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

Combine the flour and sugar in a large bowl, mixing well. Add the butter and mix well.

Place the mixture on a floured surface and pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes.

Place on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool on wire racks before storing in airtight containers.
