Mock Sauerbraten

Good German housewives used to spend days making sauerbraten. Ehler Pot Roast Gravy Mix makes it simple and simply delicious with this easy recipe from the back of their Pot Roast Gravy envelope.
INGREDIENTS
1 (1/2-ounce) package Ehlers Pot Roast Cooking and Gravy Mix
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup dry red wine
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 (3 to 4-pound) pot roast
4 carrots, quartered
2 onions, quartered
1/4 to 1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup gingersnap cookie crumbsCombine gravy mix, water, wine, vinegar, and cloves in a 4-quart Dutch oven and stir to blend well. Add pot roast, cover and cook in a preheated 350 degree oven for 2 hours.
Add carrots and onions, cover and cook 1 hour longer. Remove pot from oven and set meat aside on a warm platter. Stir sour cream and gingersnap crumbs into sauce. Serve sauce separately.
Makes 6 servings
NOTE - Leftover meat may be sliced and served cold with Horseradish Dressing
