Chocolate Pie

Back in 1932 this easy chocolate pie became an instant success and the requests for the recipe are still coming in to the Pet Milk test kitchens.

INGREDIENTS

3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (13-ounce) can Pet Evaporated Milk
1-1/3 cups water
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 (1-ounce)each squares unsweetened chocolate, broken up
1 (9-inch) frozen Pet-Ritz "Deep Dish" Pie Shell, baked

Mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a large saucepan. Gradually stir in evaporated milk and water. Add chocolate.

Cook and stir over medium heat until chocolate is completely melted and mixture boils. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.

Pour into baked crust. Chill pie at least 2 hours before serving. Serve topped with meringue or Whipped Topping, if desired.

Makes 1 (9-inch) pie
