Applesauce-Topped Beef and Sausage Loaf

INGREDIENTS

MEAT LOAF

1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound pork sausage
1/2 cup dry bread or cracker crumbs
1/2 cup beer
1 small onion, minced
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon each sage, thyme, and garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon pepper

TOPPING AND SAUCE

1-1/3 cups applesauce
1/4 cup beer

FOR MEAT LOAF - Mix ingredients. Shape into elongated loaf. Place in a shallow roasting pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes.

Spoon fat from pan. Spread 1/3 cup applesauce over meat loaf. Bake 10 minutes longer.

FOR SAUCE - Heat 1 cup applesauce and beer to simmering; serve over meat loaf slices.
