Similar to Salisbury steaks, this dish is flavored with beer.

INGREDIENTS

1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup beer
1 small onion, finely minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper and garlic powder
Oil

GRAVY

2 tablespoons drippings
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup beer
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper

Combine beef, crumbs, beer, onion, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 patties.

Pan-fry in a very small amount of oil in a skillet, pouring off drippings as they accumulate. Turn once, carefully, and cook until done as desired. Place patties on a platter; keep warm.

FOR GRAVY - Pour off drippings from skillet; return 2 tablespoons. Stir in flour. Add beer; stir until smooth. Add water and seasonings. Cook, stirring constantly until thickened; stir up brown bits. After gravy boils, reduce heat and simmer 2 to 3 minutes to mellow beer flavor.

Makes 4 servings

BREWERBURGERS - Follow recipe for English Meat Patties; omit gravy. If desired, broil or grill over coals.
