German-Style Green Beans

A savory hot bacon sauce flavored with beer is poured over green beans with palate-pleasing results. Serve with an unsauced main dish.

INGREDIENTS

2 packages (9-ounces each) frozen green beans
4 slices bacon, cut in 1/2-inch pieces
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 to 1/2 cup beer
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper

Cook beans according to package directions.

Meanwhile, fry bacon in a skillet until lightly browned. Add onion, beer, sugar, salt, and pepper. Heat to boiling.

Drain beans, pour beer mixture over, and toss lightly.

Makes 6 to 8 servings
