Alaska Tea
Print This Recipe
Sometimes called "Russian Tea", Alaska Tea can be found all over Alaska in various forms. Unlike the instant orange drink that is common in parts of Alaska where fresh juice can be hard to find, this recipe uses real ingredients. Not really a tea, it's a delicious hot drink.
INGREDIENTS
1 quart frozen or fresh low-bush, or other, cranberries
1 (2-inch) cinnamon stick
3 quarts water
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 cups orange juice
2 cups sugar, or to tasteCombine the cranberries and cinnamon stick with the water in a large, nonaluminum saucepan. Simmer uncovered over medium heat until the berries are tender, about 25 minutes.
Strain the juice through a double layer of cheesecloth and discard the berries. Add the lemon juice, orange juice, and sugar to the cranberry juice. Return the mixture to the saucepan and heat until sugar is dissolved. Serve hot.
